Jammu, January 08 (KNO) : Appreciating ten per cent quota for economically weak in general category cleared by union cabinet, former minister and BJP spokesperson Priya Sethi on Tuesday said had such a reservation for economically weak been in place since independence, no one would have been poor in India “It's the Congress party that allowed poverty to increase, slums to develop, poor from upper cast to rot and clash with other sections of society because all Congress wanted was divisive politics to rule every section of society. By keeping people in conflict zones, Congress grinded its own axe. Ever since independence the only people whose weather grew was that of Congress and not common masses,” Sethi said in a statement issued to KNO. Priya Sethi while lashing out at Congress for keeping people including Scheduled Castes and Schedules Tribes besides economically weaker section of people in general category in dark and in conflict said that this reservation will not affect anyone and instead compensate others in a big way. This, she added will be in addition to existing reservation for which constitutional amendment will be brought. She added that now children of weaker section of society from upper classes will also be getting jobs and their economic condition will also improve. Giving details she said additional 10% quota to Economically Backward Class (EBC) is aimed at upliftment of society as a whole. “Had this been in place since independence, no one would have remained poor and wealth would have been evenly distributed. This will also provide equal opportunities to underprivileged irrespective of their cast, creed, region or religion,” she said. She added that the decision will also help good students to get their due share from the society and thousands of backward families from upper casts will be able to see their wards getting government jobs which in turn will change their lives forever. Sethi while spelling out details said that this 10% Reservations will go to people who have their annual income below Rs 8Lkhs, own Agricultural land of less than 5 Hec, own homes smaller than 1000 sqft, own residential plots below 109 yards in notified municipality or have plot below 209 yards in non notified area.(KNO)
